King Edward's School Home

An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

On entering the school boys have two curriculum PE lessons per week. One lesson is dedicated to swimming in order to ensure confidence and competence in an essential life skill whilst the other rotates through a programme of health related fitness and introductory packages to a wide array of sports.

As students progress through the school curriculum PE changes to one lesson per week with the programme of study altering each half term. Swimming remains in the syllabus each year whilst the range of activities broadens. Initially the focus is upon the main school sports of rugby, hockey, cricket and athletics with each student receiving coaching to maximise his potential to excel and represent the school in one of the many sporting teams.

In conjunction with the many extra curricular lunchtime and after school clubs, the range of sports offered from the middle school onwards provides boys the opportunity to represent the school at water polo, basketball, badminton, squash, fencing, archery, table tennis and volleyball.

KES is about the pursuit of excellence, but also promotes recreational sport for enjoyment and as such teams and clubs are run for all abilities. To ensure all ability levels are catered for the house system is very strong and an extensive programme of competitions allows everyone in the school to participate and compete in the diverse array of sports on offer.
