An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

We hold mathematics competitions for able mathematicians in
The Year 6 competition takes place in the autumn term and the Year 4 competition in the Spring term. We have named the competition The Borcherds Shield after former pupil and Fields Medal winning mathematician Richard Borcherds

Both competitions involve some challenging and fun maths which takes place within one afternoon, beginning at 1:30pm and finishing by 3:00pm. There are a series of heats followed by a final comprising all the schools who finished in the top two of their heats. For more details click on one of the links above or contact us.

The maths challenge increased our competitiveness in a sporting way. It challenged us to be better mathematicians. We were proud to represent our school and wanted to do our very best. It was a great experience of an interschool competition even if we hadn't won, but we did! Our friends back at school were very jealous that we had seen Kjartan Poskitt. Sometimes maths is seen as boring and muddling, but the author made it cool and fun for us.
