King Edward's School Home

An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

Instrumental lessons

Instrumental lessons are available to all boys in the School regardless of musical or academic ability. They take place for boys in the first three years on a rota system within the timetable and thereafter they are before school, during morning break, at lunchtime or after school.

Lessons are available for most instruments and we have 22 visiting teachers. Funding may be available from the Chief Master in cases of special need, and there is also a scheme for introducing boys to instruments. Many instruments are available on loan from the department free of charge, but parents are responsible for maintaining them and providing sheet music, reeds, special mouthpieces etc.

Pupils may take ABRSM exams in school whether they have their lessons in school or not. The exams take place three times a year towards the end of each term.
