King Edward's School Home

An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

Chemistry is everywhere, from food to plastics and from oil to drugs. Our department's aim is to stimulate a lasting interest and excitement in chemistry. All students study the Edexcel International GCSE course. Practical work is embedded at the heart of the course and equips our students with the knowledge and skills needed to access IB Chemistry. In the Sixth Form, a large number of students continue with their Chemistry studies. Here they follow either the Higher or Standard level IB Chemistry course and a significant proportion go on to study science related degrees at top UK universities. Chemistry is also promoted beyond the classroom, with the students regularly competing in local and national competitions. Our Year 10 and 11 students have been successful in the RSC's Regional ChemQuiz competition, whilst our Sixth Form students have won many medals in the Royal Society's National Olympiad.
