King Edward's School Home

An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

One of the key elements of the aims of King Edward's School is to ensure that it is accessible to all pupils of ability, whatever their background. For this reason, we place great emphasis in Admissions on two things. Firstly, we do all we can to ensure that we get the boys who have the greatest potential to succeed here. To that end, our entrance examinations are designed not to place undue demands on the candidates and we make use of other information also to choose pupils: school reports are very important and we interview a very high proportion of applicants. Secondly, the school makes an exceptionally large number of awards of means-tested Assisted Places, based on family income and academic performance, and Scholarships, based on academic performance alone. In 2016, over one third of boys had some form of financial support and over 10% are here for free. Our long-term intention is to increase that proportion.

The school normally accepts boys at 11+, 13+ and 16+, although boys are admitted into other year groups in exceptional circumstances, for example when a family moves into the area.

The School is not licensed by the UK Border Agency to sponsor pupils from outside the European Economic Area (or accept transfers from other schools who can), and by making this application you confirm that you and your child have the right to enter, live and study in the UK for the duration of the education offered by the School.
